PORTFOLIO > TRADITIONAL STYLE ON THE SOUTH DOWNS
Situated high on chalk downland, the brief for this garden was to provide space for eating and entertaining, sheltered from the wind and in character both with the house and the wider existing garden.

The design uses materials sympathetic to the area, together with herbs planted both for culinary use and to soften the hard materials.

The terrace, sunken in relation to the main lawn, uses a high wall as a backing and an oak pergola to provide further shelter. A formal pool reflects the sky and adds depth and interest.

The garden was planted late in 2004 and these images were taken in Summer 2005.
