PORTFOLIO > RURAL GARDEN IN HAMPSHIRE
This garden sits in an exposed location overlooking downland.

The characteristics of the site dictated the design, which aims to divide the garden into a series of rooms, providing a feeling of intimacy and protection whilst also allowing for views out over the countryside at strategic points.

To one side of the property was the old farmyard. The shallow soil and poor conditions were ideally suited to a sunny gravel garden which leads into a new vegetable garden with raised beds.

The house itself struck a balance between the traditional and modern, and the planting of the garden reflects this; English roses over oak pergolas alongside more contemporary plantings of grasses and prairie flowers.

The garden was planted in April 2007 and the images for the gallery were taken in October 2007.
