PORTFOLIO > A GARDEN IN BURGUNDY
Overlooking the rolling chalk farmland of northern Burgundy, this private garden, formerly a field, occupies approximately 5 acres.

Developed over the past 10 years in close collaboration with the clients, who are keen gardeners, this project emphasises the importance of working in harmony with a property's setting.

Local materials and an appreciation of the site's existing conditions have enabled this garden to sit comfortably in its surroundings.

The underlying formality of the layout, with avenues of cherry trees giving direction to the space, is offset by natural and informal plantings of wildflowers, grasses and shrubs.

A gravel garden sunk into the hillside provides extra depth and seclusion whilst the swimming pool, situated in the old orchard, gives welcome relief from the summer sun.
