PORTFOLIO > CLASSIC FORMAL GARDEN
This is a long-term project, the 3.5 acre garden forming part of the overall work which includes a complete rebuild of the existing house. The Clients have had the foresight to design both house and garden as a whole, splitting the work into phases.

The brief was to transform the featureless, often waterlogged site into a classic formal garden of rooms divided by yew hedges. Avenues of lime, hornbeam and flowering cherry define the main axis, the structure to be softened by extensive borders using plants suited to the slightly acid soil.

The first phases have been to install a land drainage network to drain the site into a new woodland pond, the water from which can be re-used for irrigation during dry periods, to realign the driveway and to complete initial structural work including local sandstone walling, paving and a 40 metre long oak pergola.

The structural planting of hedges and trees is to follow, with the finer detail to be completed over time.
