Joe was involved with the detailed and technical design as well as being responsible for the project coordination and on-site management of the garden (designed by Sarah Eberle and sponsored by Bradstone).
The garden received both an Royal Horticultural Society Gold Medal and Best in Show and was widely covered in the national press.
The concept was based on an astronaut's 600 day tour of duty to Mars, using techniques and materials that could be practically applied on the planet such as rammed earth walls, together with refreshing and exciting plant material for use as food crops, biomass and medical supplies.
In 2008 Joe was again involved at Chelsea, this time as project coordinator and on-site manager for the George Harrison Memorial Garden entitled ‘From Life To Life – A Garden For George’.
Designed by Yvonne Innes and Olivia Harrison, the garden was widely praised and received an RHS Silver Gilt Medal.
